Acting President of Ukraine thanked heads of churches
Aleksandr Turchynov, acting President of Ukraine and Speaker of Verkhovna Rada thanked the heads of churches that in the midst of the difficult time they were with the people, reports the Christian Telegraph invictory.com.
This was said during a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO), which was held on February 25th at the Parliament building.
“I would like to heartily thank all of you. In the midst of a difficult time you were with the Ukrainian people,” said Alexander Turchinov.
“Every week the Word of God was voiced at the Independence Square, and you were praying with the people, even when numbers of bullets were flying. The church in Ukraine has always been respected. But the demonstration of spiritual greatness, which was revealed in those days, is certainly your merit and it could not happen without God's blessing,” said the acting president of Ukraine.
Turchynov stressed, that the meetings with representatives of the churches have become regular again to negotiate with them the most important issues. He added that the lack of spirituality generates a tragedy, therefore to “renew spirituality, renew faith – will mean to renew Ukraine.”
Commenting on the results of the meeting, Leonid Padun, bishop of the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church and pastor of the “Word of Life” church in Donetsk noted that the meeting went well. “I'm going to the airport after a meeting with A. Turchynov. The meeting went well. I was on Maidan, I saw things with my own eyes. I will share all my impressions when I get home,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Recall that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Alexander Turchinov as acting President, who is the first deputy head of the party “Batkivschina” and a Baptist preacher. He will serve as president until a new president is elected.
