Bishops Launch Liturgical Body and its Constitution

Catholic bishops have launched a new national body and it’s Constitution, aimed at promoting and improving Gospel music in the Church, reports CISA.

The official launching of the Catholic Liturgical Music Association of Kenya (CLMAK) and its Constitution took place at Saint Benedict’s Catholic Church, Nairobi along the Thika Super Highway on Saturday February 08, 2014.

The Mass at the occasion was presided over Bishop Dominic Kimengich of Catholic Diocese of Lodwar and current Chair, Liturgy Commission of the Catholic Bishops.

Hundreds of Gospel singers, choirmasters, music composers, drawn from the Church’s four metropolitan Sees (Archdioceses), attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance was the National Executive Secretary, Liturgy Commission, Father Januarius Kioko.

In his homily, Bishop Kimengich commended the Bishops for accepting the new liturgical body and it’s Constitution.

“It has been a long journey but thanks to God, the Bishops have finally accepted the new body and it’s accompanying Constitution,” Bishop Kimengich told the congregation.

He said the newly launched body was intended to assist talented people in the Gospel music, promote and improve singing in the Church.

Bishop Kimengich reminded that music was a gift and those gifted in the field should exploit it to the maximum.

The Bishop meanwhile lamented that a lot was needed in the improvement and promotion of Catholic Gospel music.

“Sometimes we have borrowed too much from the “others”; sometimes our music lacks a harmony, while the wording and the accompanying instruments leave lot to be desired,” said Bishop Kimengich.

He hoped that the new national body will go a long way to assist in the improvement and promotion of the music in the Church.

“From here we plan to move to the deaneries and parishes level in terms of launching our new body, CLMAK, and it’s accompanying Constitution,” explained Father Kioko while welcoming the Bishop.
