Christian school hit by rebel missile

While Syrian peace talks tread water, violence in the country continues. Voice of the Martyrs USA has contact with a Christian school in Syria. According to a post on VOM’s Facebook page, rebel forces fired missiles at one of the school’s classrooms yesterday, reports MNN.

Thankfully, the students were outside at the time and no one was injured.

Praise God for sparing innocent students at this school. Pray for continued protection of those who follow Christ in Syria. Pray for an end to Syria’s everlasting violence.

Since Syria’s civil war began in 2011, over 100,000 people have been killed. Christian communities regularly become victims of ruthless violence; some are even hung on crosses. Persecution of Christians has increased so much that Syria was placed in the third slot on the Open Doors 2014 World Watch List.

In October, thousands of believers were forced to flee their homes when a group linked to al-Qaeda stormed the historically-Christian town of Sadad. Muslim rebels pillaged the town, destroying buildings, and desecrating churches.

When government forces re-captured Sadad and believers were allowed to return home, they discovered a mass grave filled with nearly 40 bodies.

Some have survived the horrific violence plaguing Syria. Nearly 3 million Syrians have fled to neighboring countries, and another 4 million are internally displaced. VOM partners with Syrian churches to provide food, medical supplies, and Bibles.
