New land rent procedure for religious organizations introduced

In a bill entitled “On making alterations to certain legislative acts of Ukraine” (registered as bill 2481 of 15 May 2008), the president’s cabinet supported the proposal of the deputy head of the Christian-Democratic Union, Volodymyr Marushchenko, as to exclusion of religious organizations from the list of organizations which must rent land lots exclusively by auction in accordance to Ukrainian law. At the same time, the cabinet did not support Marushchenko’s proposal to prohibit auctioning land lots rented by religious organizations and organizations of disabled persons of Ukraine, rent reduction for religious and charitable organizations and organizations of disabled persons of Ukraine, or tax exemption for budgetary grants for university students who are either orphans or have been depraved of parental care.

The Supreme Council passed the respective bill on 23 May 2008.
