Believers Face New Challenge in Moscow, Russia

Moscow is responding to a new wave of change since the Soviet Union. According to International Mission Board, in 15 years, the population of Muslims in Moscow has grown from one percent to 20 percent, reports MNN.

This wave of immigrants are coming from Central Asia in search of higher paying jobs. A strategist from IMB is working with Southern Baptists working with Muslims in Russia says that these immigrants have little chance of hearing the Gospel in a way they can understand. There are an estimated 3.5 million in this situation.

Demographers have estimated that the population of Moscow may be 50 percent Muslim by 2050.

The strategist is working with others at IMB to put together a long-term effort to get evangelistic resources to Central Asian immigrants in Russia. There are great barriers to overcome.
