The leader of the New Generation Christian movement, Alexey Ledyayev, once became the adopted son of the renowned Christian minister and author of many books for men, Edwin Louis Cole, Christian Telegraph reports.
In an interview with our special correspondent, Pastor Alexey told the story of how the famous minister, during a visit to Latvia, decided to adopt him: "Edwin and I were dining in a restaurant. Like any other legal action, adoption requires that special documents be signed. Since we had no paper around, Edwin Cole wrote and signed the adoption 'paper' right on the tablecloth, which he then bought from the restaurant. It is interesting that such an unorthodox document is nevertheless legal and binding in the United States".
Before his death, Edwin Cole expressed his wish that the whole Cole family accept Alexey as their close relative. "When I first met Alexey, I was so excited. I felt that he was my true brother," said Edwin Cole's daughter by birth, Joann Webster.
Pastor Alexey had the same reaction: "During my trip to the US, I visited the Coles. The whole family gathered for a special ceremony of acceptance. Everything was very beautiful. You just can't imagine how I felt when, one after another, my new brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles solemnly pronounced the word 'accept'. It was an awesome feeling."
"Pastor Alexey is very similar to my granddad," said Edwin Cole's grandson, Brandon. "He is a Biblical and charismatic leader who thinks globally. When I come to Latvia and visit the New Generation church, I feel very much at home."
"There are always many participants from all social classes at Alexey's conferences," said Cole's daughter. "You can see great preachers, artists, sportsmen, politicians. It shows that pastor Alexey influences the whole society. We don't have that in America yet. I would say that the New Generation has to move forward. If the New Generation movement could spread throughout Europe, that would be great!"
Edwin Louis Cole was a Christian minister and writer of such magnitude that his books are bestsellers even today. Cole's daughter Joann took over the ministry after his death. She is currently also the administrator of the Global Pastors Network organization.
