Malawi group says some church leaders put tribe before Bible

A human rights body in Malawi has accused clergy of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian of behaving in the same divisive manner as religious leaders in Rwanda before that country's 1994 genocide, reports Ecumenical News International. The Malawi church's Tumbuka-speaking Livingstonia synod is in a border dispute with the Chichewa-speaking Nkhoma synod, which has its headquarters in the capital, Lilongwe. The Livingstonia synod has accused its Nkhoma counterpart of encroaching on its territory and in retaliation it has opened a church in Lilongwe, the heartland of the Nkhoma synod.
