Christian Democratic Union to unite all Christian parties
The decision to launch the unification process of all Ukrainian political parties which defend Christian values into a single center-right party was approved by the delegates of the 11th Congress of the Christian Democratic Union on 22 December 2007, reports Risu. The Congress, which took place at the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv, gathered not only politicians but also representatives of practically all Christian denominations.
In his report, Volodymyr Stretovych, leader of the CDU, stressed: “In Europe and in the whole world national parties are Christian democratic parties. . . . Our main principles, defined in the party program, are based on the values expressed in the Holy Gospels and which find support in all social sectors.” Stretovych emphasized that the party’s members are representatives of different religious streams: “Orthodox, Christian Charismatics, Greek Catholics, Roman Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Muslims and Jews.”
