Belarus Christians face new fines from the government

On April, 25 Sergey Lukanin, the coordinator of the Campaign «Protecting the rights of freedom of conscience» was pronounced guilty of illegal collecting of signatures to change the religious legislation (article 9.10 of the Administrative Code of Belarus «Violating legislation on …realization of the right of citizens’ legislative initiative»). He was fined to the amount of about 655 USD, reports New Life church press-center.

He found out about it on April, 28 when he came to the court of the Moscovsky district of Minsk to get the resolution on the case of pastor Slava Goncharenko.

It needs to be said, that the trial took place in his absence. At that time he was at the International Conference of European Christian Democratic parties in Helsinki where he presented a report on violations of believers’ rights in Belarus.

The same day, April, 25, pastor Slava Goncharenko was fined to the amount of about 166 USD. This resolution of the court of the Moscovsky district of Minsk was issued because of not following the order of the Prosecutor’s Office to allow state energy control inspectors into the church’s building.
