Ministry prepares to care for Eldorado children

Buckner International is preparing to take in 80 new children this week. As they awaited the Texas judge's decision about what to do with the 416 children removed from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints compound, Buckner identified 80 beds that would be available for the children if needed, reports MNN.

The state did call, and Buckner International was ready to respond. The children will be placed in both traditional residential care and Buckner-supervised foster care homes. True to the organization's mission, children will receive loving, Christian care.

They were removed from the compound after allegations that they were being abused by adults in the religious sect in Eldorado, Texas.

The case has gotten lots of media attention both domestically and internationally because of the large number of children involved and the burden that it is likely to cause for the state child care system.

Buckner will protect the privacy of those children who come into their care. Michelle Harris, director of the Buckner Residential Care Network, said, "We will do everything we can to maintain a sense of normality among the children." She is confident Buckner's response will be satisfactory since they have a long history of meeting the needs of children who have been taken from difficult situations.
