A Wisconsin man accused of killing his preborn children
A Wisconsin man may spend the rest of his life in jail for allegedly lacing his girlfriend’s drinks with the abortion drug RU-486. Darshana Patel miscarried on two different occasions, until she realized something strange was going on, reports Kim Trobee, Family News in Focus.
Manishkumar Patel is facing 99.5 years, in part for killing two of his preborn children. He allegedly slipped the abortion drug RU 486 into his girlfriend’s food and drink after he found out she was pregnant. A Connecticut lab confirmed the presence of the drug in a drink cup the woman used. Here in the U.S. RU-486 is available by prescription only, but Patel was apparently able to get a whole envelope of the pills from his native country, India. Jim Bopp, senior legal counsel for the National Right to Life Committee, says that’s a problem.
“Well, certainly this case indicates that it’s really more readily available than the law permits and certainly that is something that needs to be looked into here.”
Patel is being charged under the Wisconsin fetal homicide law, a fact that Dawn Vargo with Focus on the Family Action calls ironic.
“There is a fundamental discrepancy here when a man can be charged with homicide for killing a preborn child without the woman’s consent or knowledge, but when a woman wants to pay to have her preborn child killed, it’s perfectly legal.”
It’s not the first time a man has tried to kill a preborn child without the mother’s consent and it won’t be the last.
“We will continue to see these sorts of horrendous stories in the news until our culture starts revering human life and seeing abortion for what it truly is.”
Lawyers for the man say he will probably plead not guilty.
