Refusal an appointment with the mayor of Minsk City
On January, 15 the lawyer of New Life Church Sergei Lukanin received a phone call from Inna Kovalevskaya, the deputy director of the department of personal and corporate appeals of Minsk City Executive Committee, reports New Life Church press center.
She informed Sergei Lukanin that pastor Vyacheslav Goncharenko had been refused an appointment with the Mayor of Minsk City Nikolai Ladytko. She explained that the refusal was given based on the fact that “the matter to be discussed lies beyond the scope of Mayor’s jurisdiction.”
The appeal of pastor Slava Goncharenko written at the request of New Life Church parishioners, was submitted by the church lawyer Sergey Lukanin on Monday, December 3 to the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus and then on the following morning of Tuesday, December 4 – to the Naitonal Council of Ministers.
The appeal is addressed personally to the Prime-minister of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Myasnikovich and the Chief of Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus A. Kobyakova.
The letter contains a request for cancellation of the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee No. 1391 of August 17, 2005. If this decision is cancelled – then all other courts’ rulings would be cancelled, based upon newly revealed circumstances. Also, the appeal contains a request for cancellation of the contract of compulsory purchase of the building and for permission for the church to issue all documents of title on the building and its piece of land.
"We believe that such decision would be fair: thus, the matter which has already done considerable harm to our country’s reputation in the international area will be once and for all resolved. Such an act of good will would show not only to parishioners of New Life Church, but also to all citizens of our country, and the international community existence of positive changes in the relations between the government and Protestant denominations in Belarus", – is emphasized in the appeal.
