Jaerock Lee's blog: A Young Man with Terminal Tuberculosis
There were many people with tuberculosis in the lungs at that time. Daehee Cho from Kwangju had once had lung tuberculosis when he was in high school. He took the medicines from the public health center and recovered, but when he went to the college, he began to drink and smoke, and it reoccurred. But once it reoccurred, although he took medication, nothing worked. His mother got everything that was said to be a ‘good cure’ for her son’s disease and gave it to him. These “cures” included snakes, cats, fresh liver, juice from human excrement, and even medicine for lepers. They also did exorcisms, fed him amniotic sac, got flesh from a corpse in the cemetery and fed it to him because someone said that it was ‘good as medicine.’
In January 1982, he was diagnosed at Severance Hospital of Yonsei University. His lung was already gone and there was no hope for a cure. He was hospitalized, but there was no recovery. His mother gave up and wanted to take him from the hospital. At this time, some grandmother in the family came to see him. This old woman was living near Manmin church. Although she had never attended the church, she saw that many sick people came and received healing. She saw them walking around with healthy bodies. That’s why she urged her grandson to go to the Manmin church. On March 13, 1983, Daehee Cho attended the Friday all-night service. He felt that it was the last hope. He was so skinny that his eyes were bulging out.
In that situation, he attended meetings for the sick everyday with his mother, and he fasted for three days. On the third day of the fast, God gave him the spirit of repentance, and he made full and thorough repentance three times. On the thirteenth day from the time that he first came to the church Daehee Cho was convinced that he was healed. After the dawn prayer meeting, he went to the bathroom and spit. There was no blood. He had even spit up blood on the previous day. But on that day the spit was clear of blood. The sharp pain in the chest was gone, and there was no sputum or blood. Later, he was called as a servant of God and now he is doing his ministry as an assistant pastor of our church.
