HIV-positive cleric more convinced AIDS-free world is possible

The Rev. Gideon Byamugisha, a Ugandan Anglican priest who became the first known African cleric to declare publicly he was HIV-positive, says his conviction has grown that the world can be free of AIDS by 2025 if obstacles, such as inaction and denial, are tackled, reports Ecumenical News International. "I am even more optimistic that we can defeat this virus by 2025. We can halt it, we can reverse it, and we can eventually defeat it," Byamugisha told Ecumenical News International in Nairobi on 22 April, where he was training church leaders from the National Christian Council of Kenya (NCCK) on how to deal with stigma and discrimination.
