Polish Orthodox Church bishops walk out on meeting of Presidents

Members of the Polish Orthodox Church (POC) defiantly walked out of a meeting of the Ukrainian and Polish presidents on 14 April 2008, after being omitted from the event’s opening remarks, reports RISU. POC archbishop Avel of Lublin and Kholm, bishop Heorhii of Semiatych, and Archpriest Marian Bendza left the hall during the Polish president’s address, offended that they had been neglected while representatives of the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Church were properly introduced.

Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Moscow Patriarchate Head Volodymyr Sabodan voiced his support for POC in a letter to Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and all Poland.

“I wish to express our support for our sister Orthodox Church of Poland and voice our parallel concern,” he wrote.
