Young Germans failing to respond to Pope Benedict, survey finds

The election of a German pope three years ago has failed to bring young people in his homeland back to the Roman Catholic Church, according to a new survey, and Benedict XVI has had little impact on attitudes to the Christian faith it says, reports Ecumenical News International. "For many young Germans, the Church is one of many propositions for seeking sense in life," Carsten Wippermann, who conducted the poll for the Heidelberg-based Sinus-Sociovision agency, told Germany's Catholic news agency, KNA, on 10 April. "In choosing between these, young people most often consider very concretely what will bring personal benefits and what might improve their image among contemporaries."
