Ukrainian Biblical Society Outlines Plans for 2008
On 20 December 2007, in Kyiv, the Ukrainian Biblical Society (UBS) held this year’s last session of its Board, as RISU’s correspondent Vasyl Korshak reported.
Members of the board resolved to grant the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church (UCEC) membership in the UBS. Leonid Padun, head of the UCEC, gave a presentation about his Church which consists of 275 communities, conducts immense missionary service both in Ukraine and abroad, runs schools and does social work in Ukraine.
Father Rafail Turkoniak, Bible translator, presented an interlinear translation of the Holy Gospel. According to Fr. Turkoniak, it is necessary to work from two translations of the Holy Gospel – Hebrew and Greek. The New Testament contains many quotes from the Old Testament, 75 per cent of which come from Greek translation and 25 per cent from the Hebrew original.
Roman Vovk, general secretary of the UBS, reported on the construction status of a central office of the UBS in Kyiv. According to him, the major problem is lack of funds.
