Rice crisis is a challenge says Philippines church leader

A shortage of rice, the Filipinos' staple food, has challenged some church leaders to look into what went wrong in an agricultural country whose land is said to have the potential to feed almost all of the nation's 91 million people, reports Ecumenical News International. "I cannot see the logic of solely blaming nature for the rice crisis," the Rev. Rex Reyes, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, told participants at a recent conference on food security.
