KENYA: Bishop urges Christians to Maximise their Talents
A Kenyan Catholic bishop has urged Christians to fully maximise their God given talents in offering service to the church. This was a way of deepening their faith and a “way-out for many of the challenges facing us today” he said, reports CISA.
Bishop Salesius Mugambi of Meru Diocese and the current Chair, Commission for Pastoral and Lay Apostolate of the Bishops added that, “We are gifted differently, hence we should use our gifts in different ways.”
The Bishop said this on Sunday, November 13 at Saint Augustine Catholic Parish Centre, Juja, Archdiocese of Nairobi, where he presided over the Mass and joined the congregation in a funds drive for their Church, which is currently under construction.
The Parish caters for the Catholic community at the nearby Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He also urged the congregation, led the Father-in-Charge of the Parish, Rev Fr Francis Kiarie, to pray for his diocese, which he said was marking a centenary of its pastoral mission among the Meru people on December 13 this year.
“We urge you to remember us in your prayers as we celebrate the 100 years since the Catholic faith was introduced to the Meru people by Consolata Missionaries in 1911,” said the Bishop.
During the funds drive, the Parish Father-in-Charge and his friends gave Ksh 1.7 million, Bishop and friends Ksh. 305,000 while Nairobi University Chancellor, Professor Joe Wanjui gave Ksh. 100,000. A total of Ksh. 7.5 million was raised.
The Church construction is estimated to cost Ksh. 70 million.
Bishop Mugambi thanked the local Christians for their effort to build a modern Church for God’s service on self-reliance basis.
“This is yet another proof that you have a total faith in God and that you are making use of His gifts to you in the best way possible,” he observed.
