American Families Work to Address World-Wide Humanitarian Aid Crises
Global Aid Network www.GAiNUSA.org anticipates that during October’s work project more than 4,000 people from around the United States will volunteer to help process and pack as many as 12 tractor trailer loads of goods including vegetable seeds, rice and beans, clothing, school supplies, oatmeal, and more, reports Michael Ireland, Senior Correspondent, ASSIST News Service.
According to a media release, hundreds of families, schools, and church groups are expected to converge in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as a part of the Global Aid Network’s Mission Packing Project.
From October 10-15, Global Aid Network, the humanitarian aid arm of Campus Crusade for Christ International, will open the doors of its Pennsylvania Distribution Center near Mount Joy to people of all ages who want to help needy communities around the world.
The news release says this aid will be shipped to numerous locations around the world including Central Asia, the Gambia, Guatemala, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe, just to name a few.
One of the main focuses this year will be sending food and other vital aid to the Horn of Africa. Due to the drought and famine there, more than 10 million people are facing starvation.
Due to the variety of work to be done at the distribution center, mission work becomes a family affair with people flying in even from the west coast in order to participate.
“I continue to be amazed at the number of volunteers who come from all over the United States to work at our distribution center,” said Duane Zook, CEO of Global Aid Network.
“I am so encouraged by the number of families who return year after year. I am especially proud of the thousands from the Lancaster area who help, since I grew up in this area,” he said.
The attraction for these families is the international impact each one of them has through volunteering. Through the year-round efforts of the distribution center, individuals who would not normally be able to physically travel to places like Guatemala, Ukraine, or Zimbabwe can still demonstrate their compassion for those in need simply by giving their time.
Phil Liller, the director of the distribution center explained, “Volunteers are excited to partner with Global Aid Network and be used by God to help send compassionate aid to hurting countries around the world.”
