Pro-Life protest to be held Saturday in São Paulo

The pro-life organization Brazil Without Abortion will be holding a demonstration in Sé Plaza in São Paulo to protest the proposed legalization of abortion, according to the Brazilian publication Folha Online, the website for the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, reports Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, LifeSiteNews.com.

The legislation in question is Bill 1135/91, which was originally proposed 17 years ago. It is again under consideration, as it has around the same time of year every year since 1991, according to Jaime Ferreira Lopes, national coordinator for the movement.

The group will also be protesting an attempt to legalize embryonic stem cell research, which is currently being voted on by the nation's Supreme Court

"In our understanding, life begins at conception, unlike minister Carlos Ayrres Britto [of the Federal Supreme Court], who decrees the right to life just after birth," Lopes told Folha.

Last year's protest drew about 11,000 people according to Folho Online.
