Russian president-elect and Orthodox church head extol close ties

Highlighting the close ties between Church and State in Russia, president-elect Dmitry Medvedev and other top government officials attended the presentation of Volume XVI of the Orthodox Encyclopaedia at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. At the launch, Patriarch Alexei II of the Russian Orthodox Church congratulated Medvedev on his victory in the 2 March presidential elections. "Thank you deeply respected Dmitry Anatolievich [Medvedev] for the support that you promise to the Orthodox Encyclopaedia on the part of the government," the patriarch said at the 19 March presentation.
