For the last 20 years, OM’s TeenStreet event has discipled tens of thousands of Europe’s Christian youth, as the Christian organisation Operation Mobilisation (OM) reports. The 2011 programme is now underway and once again young people from as far away as the Faroe Islands have travelled to the week of creative Biblical teaching in Offenburg, Germany. From the 30th July to 6th August, the teenagers will interact with other Christian teens and leaders from totally different cultures, worship God and study His word together.
This year, TeenStreet is focusing on the issue of being ‘Real’. Main speakers Josh and Debs Walker (USA/Ireland) will lead the teens in a programme based on experiencing the “REAL” Jesus by getting to know the Jesus of the Bible and who He is today. The daily teaching sessions are followed by an opportunity for the teens to break into small groups to discuss the material with their peers. Experienced volunteers facilitate these groups and are on hand throughout the week to assist and counsel the teens through any issues that come up.
Every evening, the teens gather together to worship God as one. TeenStreet coaches also supervise free-time activities such as sport, music, dance, arts and topical workshops on subjects like eating disorders. The week is not only about the teens receiving input though. An outreach day is also organised for the young people to put their faith into practice by serving a nearby community. In addition, there are ‘Raise and Give’ events for the young people to donate towards other Christian projects around the world that are assisting teens in need.
Over the last two decades, TeenStreet has grown to include events in Europe, South America, Malaysia, Australia and South Africa. Through website forums and follow-up material, initiatives have also been developed to engage with the participants after they return home.
