US State Department assesses religious freedom in Ukraine

On 11 March 2008 , the US State Department published its annual Report on Human Rights, which included an assessment of religious freedoms in Ukraine, reports RISU.

The report stresses that the Ukraine’s Constitution protects the right to religious freedom, but that religious minorities sometimes have difficulty purchasing and registering property. It also noted that although there is no state religion, local authorities occasionally favor whichever confession comprises the majority in any given area.
