Ministry team poised to respond to Midwest flooding
U.S. President George Bush declared a major disaster in Missouri, reports MNN.
That means the state will get federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by flooding following heavy spring storms.
Seventy counties and the city of St. Louis also are eligible for federal funding for emergency protective measures. The storms dumped as much as a foot of rain on the Midwest, submerging roads, homes and killing at least a dozen people.
Flooding also was reported in parts of Arkansas, southern Illinois, southern Indiana, and Kentucky.
The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee is poised to respond, with local managers monitoring the situation. However, assessment teams have to wait until the flood waters recede to get a clearer picture of the needs they can address.
