Alcoholism handbook presented in Ternopil, Ukraine

On 17 March 2008, the inter-eparchial Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) subcommittee for sobriety was in Ternopil, presenting a new handbook for priests explicating methods for dealing with alcoholism. The first 500-book pressrun (accompanied with a CD) will be distributed among UGCC priests all over Ukraine, reports the head of the subcommittee, Father Andrii Lohin, Ph. D. The subcommittee plans to produce the total of 3000 books and distribute them between parish priests, reports RISU. The aim of the handbook and CD – of which 3000 copies are to be distributed – is to help the parish priests coordinate support groups for persons battling alcoholism.

“The book embodies the most modern approaches to alcoholism used by the best rehabilitation centers of the world, as well as spiritual principles relevant to overcoming addiction.” explains Father Lohin. “Each 55-minutes lesson in the 44-lesson program starts with a prayer and submission of homework, and goes on from there.”
