Zambia's first lady rows with bishop who queries presidential aims

Maureen Mwanawasa, the wife of the Zambian president, Levy Mwanawasa, has castigated the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia executive director, Bishop Paul Mususu, for questioning what she says are people's calls for her to contest the national presidency in 2011, reports Ecumenical News International. Bishop Mususu, who has been active is civil society groups that seek open government, was reported in the Zambian media to have said the silence of President Mwanawasa and his wife on the matter implied there was a plan for her husband to keep control of the levers of power through his wife.
