The Roman Catholic Church in Ireland has denied engaging in a cover-up of the alleged involvement of a priest in a bombing in Northern Ireland that killed nine people in 1972, reports Ecumenical News International. A 24 August report of the Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman into a 1972 car bomb in Claudy, County Derry, in July 1972 found that talks between representatives of the government, the police and the church resulted in the Rev. James Chesney, a suspect in the bombing, being transferred to a parish in the Republic of Ireland.
