An Evangelical church robbed in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
An Evangelical church in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, has been robbed and a church member badly beaten by the assailants, reports Dan Wooding, founder of ASSIST Ministries.
In a message sent to the ASSIST News Service (ANS), by Jed Courley, the pastor, he said, “Some of you may have already heard -- our church was broken into last night. At about 1:00 in the morning four men climbed over the fence and broke into the back door of the church. A woman, Valya, who was there was badly beaten, tied up with tape, and then beaten more when very little money was found. Rooms trashed, safe demolished. Some music equipment, a computer, and other things were taken.
“Valya managed to escape about 4:00 in the morning, hobbled to a neighbor, and called us. The police came after about an hour or so after we got there and at first seemed more interested in our documents than in the beaten woman or what happened. Typical! When they left Renee and I took Valya to the hospital.
“It is very difficult to put someone in the hospital here. After about 6 hours of driving all over the city and going back and forth between different hospital buildings, we were able to get Valya into a room, buy medicine and food for her. Besides all of the bruising and swelling, Valya sustained a concussion, a broken nose, and some other serious injuries.”
Courley, an American Calvary Chapel missionary, added, “We had a good prayer meeting at the church this evening and people see that this is not only a physical attack. Satan is resisting the work of God. However, we know that God is faithful to His people and we know that somehow He will use all of this for His glory and purposes. We pray for the salvation of those who committed these horrible acts, the salvation of the police and medical personal involved. Please pray for Valya and the church here in Bishkek.”
