'Children for Christ' builds biblical foundation in East Timor

One of the only two predominantly-Christian nations in Southeast Asia, East Timor occupies the east side of the island containing Indonesian West Timor, with much of its inhabitants practicing a mix of Catholicism and native traditional religion, reports MNN.

Many lack a strong biblical foundation, which makes the Timorese susceptible to false doctrines and the acceptance of Islamic influence. To prevent this clouding of their faith, Biblica is using their program "Children for Christ" (C4C) to reach the children of East Timor, train the church in children's ministry, and encourage family participation in church.

During a C4C outreach in the capital city of Dili, over 100 kids from around the country came to hear about Christ. Some traveled up to 12 hours by ship and then continued their journey by bus.

Biblica used a film about Jesus and other visual aids, including a booklet entitled You Matter, to deliver a clear message about Christ, His mission, and how much He cares for each and every one of them. At the end of the outreach, most of the children accepted Christ as their Savior.

Over the course of this year, Biblica wants to reach 415,500 kids from the age of 4 to 18 through the C4C program. In addition to reaching East Timor, they have ministries in the Philippines, Burundi, Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

New this year, Lynn Waalkes at Biblica said they want to follow up with 20,000 kids who have already gone through C4C, with their program called "Living the Story." Through this, they plan to again engage youth with Scripture, as well as develop discipleship.
