British crisis pregnancy centre will counter abortion ads

The Good Counsel Network, a British pro-life crisis pregnancy centre, is raising funds to launch a counter campaign against abortion ads currently airing on British television, reports Hilary White, LifeSiteNews.com.

The group is planning a poster campaign for the London public transit system that would feature a famous painting of the Madonna and Child and the caption “Maria Stops Abortion.” The slogan is a pun on the name of one of the world’s largest abortionist groups, Marie Stopes International, which is currently advertising its abortion services on Channel 4.

The group hopes to reach some of the 3.4 million commuters that the Tube carries to and from London every weekday. Their latest newsletter said the rate for Tube advertising is £20 per carriage for 2 weeks. The system runs as many as 500 trains at a time, each having 6 or more carriages, and the group is looking for funding to put the signs in as many of those carriages as possible.

The strongly Catholic Good Counsel Network offers free pregnancy tests, counseling and practical help for women who may be considering abortion.

The Marie Stopes abortion ads have generated much media attention and over a thousand complaints to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority and Channel 4. The Good Counsel Network hopes to use the furor surrounding the ads both to help women who may be considering abortion and to generate public discussion of the realities of abortion.

The Network says that both Marie Stopes International and the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, another major British abortionist group, regularly run adverts on the Tube. “When this happens, for several weeks we all have to live with the sight of some tastefully designed posters, promoting abortion as though it was the reasonable person’s answer to the ‘problem’ of an ‘unwanted’ pregnancy.”

They added that abortion television ads exacerbate the problem, making abortion seem “simple, morally acceptable” and “something which facilitates a happy future.” Such advertising, they said, “makes no reference either to the horror of what the different abortion procedures involve for the baby OR to the awful suffering that many, many women will endure afterwards.”

The Good Counsel Network posters are now available for display in schools or churches.
